THE “Today” show this week took viewers to Nike Sports research laboratory within the company headquarters near Beaverton for a segment on how Nike designs NFL uniforms, focused on creating new uniforms for the Houston Texans football team.

Craig Melvin, one of the hosts of “Today,” talked about the four new uniforms the Houston team is introducing this season, as well as focus group meetings and other research aimed at getting a sense of what Houston fans wanted.

Next, Melvin turned his attention to Nike and how the design team created the Houston Texans’ new uniforms, and how they evolved into a “blend of art and storytelling.”

The new uniforms have proven very popular, Melvin said, adding that uniform items have become big business for the NFL.

The “Today” show airs at 7 a.m. weekdays on NBC; the 3rd hour “Today” is broadcast at 9 a.m. The show also streams on Fubo.
