Emotional moment at Lang’ata cemetery as street children gather to bury their homeless brothers

  • Bishop Ben Kiengei joined a crowd of street children to celebrate the lives of three of their deceased friends who became family members.
  • The three were among seven street children who died and, according to Kiengei, they only managed to obtain burial permits for the three young men.
  • The funeral procession, funded by the Kiengei church, started from the town mortuary and ended at the Langata cemetery, where the pastor pleaded with the children to return home.

What was the message from the homeless children in Kiengei?

In an emotional post on Facebook, Bishop Muthee Kiengei said the Nairobi County the families on the street invited him to join them in resting the brothers.

“The funeral event entirely facilitated by the JCM International Church was a moving event that changed my perspective on street families. I noticed that they were a family that loved each other; through the tears, I could tell that their feelings are alive,” Kiengei said.

“Please change your attitude towards them, they are our loved ones who totally need help…we then shared lunch together and their request was Bishop Ben, please build- us a house so that we can have a place to go when it rains. May God help me to fulfill their wish.

More than 70 street children in despair following the death of their godfather

Another story revealed that John Kariuki Kimani “Kiki”, a beloved Huruma figure who dedicated for over 10 years to feed and educate street children, was dead.

Every weekend, Kiki provided breakfast and lunch to street families, ensuring they had at least two meals to rely on.

His death also means that more than 70 children whose expenses he paid are left without their benefactor.
