Guns and fentanyl shaped like dog treats seized by Metro Vancouver transit police

Several guns, body armor, diamonds and fentanyl shaped like dog treats were among the items seized in a recent bust, Metro Vancouver Transit Police said Tuesday.

Two people have been arrested and face multiple charges in connection with a “sophisticated” drug trafficking operation in Surrey, British Columbia.

Police said the two men were suspected of dealing illegal drugs in and around Surrey, including the transit system.

“These two individuals posed a serious risk to public safety due to their access to firearms and the fact that the drugs they were trafficking were shaped like dog bones,” the spokesperson said. transport police, Const. » said Amanda Steed.

At a news conference Tuesday, police displayed the seized items, including a plastic dog treat mold and several bags containing what appeared to be dog treats, but police said they were of fentanyl.

“The fact that they are shaped like a regular dog treat is very concerning for people who may not know what they are picking up if they see something on the street. And for our pets Also, they are part of the family too.” Steed said.

Police said they seized 3.4 kilograms of fentanyl, approximately 29 grams of cocaine, five firearms, a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta and approximately $37,000 in cash.

Steed did not respond to a question about how the suspects – a man and a woman – were arrested. One remains in custody awaiting his next court date and the other is under house arrest for 24 hours, Steed said. Their names have not been released due to a publication ban.

Police say the British Columbia Public Prosecution Service approved charges against the two men, including drug trafficking, firearms trafficking, drug possession and possession of a firearm without a license.
