Melrose professor’s message about veterans and Trump being investigated

A polarizing Veterans Day social media post allegedly made by a Melrose High School teacher is being investigated by school officials.

The Instagram story shared a Veterans Day tribute from All Elite Wrestling to those who have served our country.

It included the following personal comment, which is now under scrutiny:

“Happy Veterans Day to all the veterans who didn’t vote for Trump. Otherwise, I hope your Veterans Day is filled with tears and PTSD.

“Why would you say that to anyone?” I have people I disagree with, and plenty of people I disagree with. I would never say something like that,” said parent Erik Bush.

Bush’s daughter, who is a freshman at Melrose High School, brought the post to his attention.

He said the biology teacher who did it is the class advisor for his daughter’s class and a student government official.

“You can have your opinion on anything. It’s your choice, but to express your feelings and actually lash out at someone, that was a target,” Bush said. “It’s really beyond the limits.”

Melrose Public Schools Superintendent Adam Deleidi released a brief statement on the controversy:

“At this time, we have no comment on this matter regarding a personnel investigation.”

Boston 25 News is not identifying the teacher pending the results of a school district investigation.

We tried to talk to him at his home on the North Shore, but a neighbor downstairs told us he didn’t want to talk.

The mayor’s office and Melrose Veterans Affairs office have no comment.

The social media post was discussed at a meeting of the Melrose Veterans Advisory Council Tuesday evening, where the mental health topic of PTSD hits close to home for many members.

“The fact that you’re going to hate them and want them to suffer because of who you voted for,” Bush added. “I imagine he’s sorry, and I hope he is. Any honest person really would be.
