Great-grandmother shares birthday 99 years away from grandchild: ‘This is so special’

BISMARCK, ND (KFYR/Gray News) – A family in North Dakota had plenty of celebrations this week with two milestone birthdays.

On Wednesday, Lorraine Bunk turned 100 and her great-grandson Jack turned 1.

The two were born on the same day, 99 years apart.

Bunkza was born on October 23, 1924. Baby Jack was born on October 23, 2023.

“It’s very special because his birthday is the same day as mine,” Bunk said.

Even more special? Bunk’s wedding anniversary also falls on October 23. She married her late husband Roland on October 23, 1949, on her 25th birthday.

“It was a beautiful day,” he recalled with a smile.

Bunk’s husband died in 1981, but she never forgot the first man who stole her heart and made her birthday even more special.

But thanks to little Jack, October 23rd is even more special these days.

And even though these birthday friends have been separated for 99 years, the bond between them is one that will make this day forever unforgettable for the entire family.

October has always been a month of celebration for the family, Bunk said. In addition to his birthday and wedding anniversary on October 23, his wife’s birthday was also on October 24.
