Green carpet laid out ready to welcome players and supporters

With assembly of the stands underway and the buildings wind and watertight, the project, which will be the new headquarters of the Guernsey Football Association and the home ground of Guernsey FC, is on track to welcome players and fans. supporters early next year.

“It’s great to see Victoria Park taking shape, and 10 years after planning began, we’re pleased the project is on track,” said GFA chief executive Gary Roberts.

“The new 3G pitch will provide Guernsey football with a high quality all-weather surface, so seeing it go down was a particularly special moment.

“The development of the stadium means that the whole community will benefit from experiencing football on a world-class playing surface, and we look forward to welcoming players and supporters to enjoy all the facilities that will offer Victoria Park.”

The new generation turf, used at the highest level in Fifa and UEFA competitions, features a 40mm pile height laid on a pre-fabricated 10mm foam shock pad.

Its surface is a mixture of grass-like fibers attached to a special backing with a mixture of sand and brushed rubber. White lines are cut into the surface.

Durable and safe, the pitch will provide the stadium with a year-round playing surface capable of withstanding intensive daily use.

For spectators, there will be seated stands on the north and south touchlines while behind each goal there will be covered terraces.

Made from high quality galvanized steel, the structures were prefabricated in the UK for easier assembly and erection on site by main contractor Rihoy & Son, with the awnings due to be installed this month.

The fitting out of the clubhouse locker room is also well advanced.

“The buzz that Victoria Park is already creating has been incredible, so we are very pleased that the project is on schedule and hopefully we will be welcoming players and fans through the turnstiles next spring,” said Rob Jones , director of Parc Victoria.

“Victoria Park will mark the start of an exciting new era for Guernsey football and we are delighted that the community is already supporting us, from sponsors keen to get involved to clubs and players eager to put their boots on the pitch for a period really exciting.
