WT to use $350,000 grant to expand research partnerships

CANYON, Texas (KFDA) – Engineering professors at West Texas A&M University will use a federal grant to help them expand their research partnerships.

According to a press release, WT received a $350,000 grant from the National Science Foundation’s Enabling Partnerships to Increase Innovation Capacity (EPIIC) program.

“The initiative supports three main objectives: improving institutional partnership development processes, establishing a partnership training program, and diversifying and expanding the network of external partners. And it will allow us to focus on key technology sectors, including artificial intelligence, biotechnology, semiconductors and new materials,” said Dr. Fatemeh “Azi” Tabei, principal investigator and assistant professor of electrical engineering. and IT.

WT says Tabei will work with Dr. Emily Hunt, dean of the College of Engineering, and Dr. Vinitha Hannah Subburaj, associate dean.

While large industries and government agencies look to larger institutions when proposing partnerships, WT says EPIIC grants attempt to level the playing field for undergraduate institutions.

The grant to WT is part of nearly $19 million to 48 U.S. educational institutions.
