Alabama rapper Flo Milli ignited her fan base and much of the rap world by teasing a possible pregnancy in a brief music video.

Milli, who is from Mobile, kicked things off Tuesday night with an Instagram clip of herself and a masked partner dancing to a new tune. That in itself would be remarkable: Milli’s successes include a Top 10 R&B hit, “Never Lose Me,” a record for longest streak at #1 on Billboard’s TikTok Top 50 and even a showcase on NPR’s “Tiny Desk” program.

The question she asked was innocuous: “What do you think I should name this song?” – but she seemed to display a baby bump.

And then there are the lyrics, which include the line “I know this boy wants to set me up/Okay/He wants to give me a baby/I want him to give me his baby.” (Content advisory: As an artist who built her career on streaming rather than radio, Milli has been free to incorporate frankly explicit sexual imagery into her lyrics, and this unnamed track exemplifies that trend.)

Even though the unspoken message of the clip seems pretty obvious, Milli came back later. on with the teasing comment, “damn, can’t I be bloated??” This followed a tweet from a few days earlier in which she said: “I haven’t been in the mood to drink or smoke lately.” »

The reaction was both energetic and mixed. The majority of commenters on his post expressed their congratulations. But to some fans who saw Milli as an independent and successful female artist, it seemed like she had given something up. “We lost another one,” one commenter said. The male admirers also had their reasons. “Flomilli, I need confirmation, are you out of the game?” » asked a commenter on X.

The initial post also sparked reactions from other celebrities. “M Girllll,” Megan Thee Stallion responded. “Congratulations Flo,” said Mobile rapper Bianca Clarke. “FLO WAIT FOR THIS A LOT RN,” Sexyy Red replied.

Although unconfirmed, the possible pregnancy was big news on hip hop-centric news sites. TousHipHop.comfor example, said the artist “sent fans into crisis mode.” The site also said that Milli was having “the best year of her career so far with her Billboard Hot 100 Top.” 15 single, “Never Lose Me”, achieving platinum certification. Speaking of Billboardit also captured the “is she or isn’t she” frenzy.
