Calmer, warmer weather to end the week, but wait and see what happens next week

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) – After a rainy and windy start to the day, we ended the day on a calm and dry note. The weather will remain calm and dry for the rest of the week. However, the weather will become active and colder next week. Wait and see what might happen to us.

With winds easing, clear skies and a much cooler air mass in place, it will be a cold night across the region. Lows tonight fall into the 20s for most locations. After a cold start to Thursday, we will see the return of the southerly flow and some warmer air. Highs tomorrow will climb above average into the 60s. Thanks to southerly winds, Thursday night won’t be as cold, with lows mostly in the 30s. South winds will become breezy Friday and Saturday ahead of our next system which will bring cooler temperatures early next week. Highs Friday and Saturday mostly in the 60s. A cold front moves through Saturday evening, bringing some cooler air to the area for Sunday. This appears to be a dry front, so not much precipitation is expected. What will be the case on Sunday is a significantly cooler day with highs in the 50s.

An upper-level low moves from the southwest United States into the Central Plains on Monday. This system will bring widespread chances of rain during the day Monday into Monday evening. Beyond Tuesday, there is moderate confidence that there will be much colder air that could support snow by midweek. However, there is little confidence at this point on whether we will see snow, as long-range forecasts are divided on when the upper-level low will move into the region. Some models have a slower moving system which would allow moisture to enter the area. Other models have a faster moving system that would not allow moisture to enter the area at the back of the bottom. Several more days to sort out the details. Just something to watch out for as we head into next week.
