While some fruits can be enjoyed daily, others should be consumed in moderation. Daily consumption of papaya, for example, a fruit available all year round, could harm health.

According to an interview conducted by Local18 with a doctor, regular consumption of papaya can lead to stomach problems and indigestion.

Dr Vinay Khullar, senior Ayurveda physician and director of Kaya Ayurveda Medical College, said one should not consume papaya daily as it contains excess fiber, which can cause constipation. He explained that some people have sensitive digestive systems and may suffer from gas and indigestion from eating papaya daily. Additionally, excessive consumption of papaya can lead to stomach pain and other digestive problems. It should therefore be consumed in moderation.

Dr Khullar emphasized that papaya should be consumed in adequate quantity. When consumed in moderation, papaya fiber and papain enzymes can improve digestion. Eating papaya on an empty stomach in the morning cleanses the stomach and relieves constipation.

Papaya: a treasure trove of nutrients

Papaya is rich in antioxidants like vitamin A, vitamin C and vitamin E. It is also an excellent source of carbohydrates, fiber, protein, vitamin B9, potassium and magnesium. Additionally, it contains nutrients like calcium, vitamin B1, vitamin B3, vitamin B5, vitamin E, and vitamin K.

Can diabetics eat papaya?

People with diabetes should avoid papaya because it increases insulin production, which can lead to a significant drop in blood sugar levels. Diabetics should therefore consult their doctor before consuming papaya.
