A plan to create a “unique, vibrant and modern town center” in Camberley has been published by the borough council.

Surrey Heath Borough Council said the emphasis was on establishing it as a hub for independent shopping, dining and leisure experiences.

Key initiatives include improvements to the Square Shopping Center and transport links.

The plan also includes 1,500 new homes, with a focus on affordability for local people, themed craft markets, street vendors and a food hall for independent retailers.

The plans state: “Camberley is undergoing a significant transformation driven by the council’s vision to create a unique, vibrant and modern town centre.

Council leader Shaun Macdonald said the local authority was committed to the project and would work with partners and stakeholders to “build on the progress” already made.

He added: “While we understand there are significant challenges ahead, it is crucial that we continue to improve the town centre, deliver new homes and maintain good financial management. »
