Miss Universe 2024: how to watch, when it will be and what you need to know

Miss Universe 2024 will be the 73rd Miss Universe pageant and will be held at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico on Saturday, November 16, 2024.

Reigning Miss Universe, Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua will crown the next Miss Universe among the 130 candidates competing for the crown, including Chidimma Adetshina of Nigeria.

When will Miss Universe 2024 be?

The 73rd Miss Universe pageant will take place at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico on Saturday, November 16, 2024,

Competition activities will begin on Monday, November 11. The opening competition and national costume show will take place on Thursday, November 14.

The National Costume Show is a reference to the countries they come from.

Where to watch Miss Universe 2024

This year, Miss Universe will be broadcast live on AppleTV and Telemundo.

South African residents can watch the live broadcast on S3 (DStv Channel 193) from 04:00 on Sunday 17 November, with a first rebroadcast later the same day at 20:00.

How will they crown the winner?

The candidates for the 73rd Miss Universe have already started landing for Mexico since the end of October and they have not been attending several events since November 1 such as galas, cocktails and going on tours and excursions.

But the preliminaries and national costume show will be held on November 14.

Voting for top contestants selected for the semi-finals to advance to the final, and the Best Costume Competition are also open to fans.

South African Miss Universe representative Mia le Roux will make history as the first hearing-impaired contestant to compete for the prestigious title. The 28-year-old beauty queen will join the 126 candidates for the 73rd Miss Universe pageant.

Le Roux, who embraces his unique journey as an advocate for inclusiveness, expresses his excitement about representing South Africa on the world stage.

Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina represents Nigeria after a unique journey. Initially, she participated in the Miss South Africa pageant, but withdrew due to a citizenship question.

After winning Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma hopes to make a significant impact, as Nigeria has only participated twice in the history of the competition.

Miss Universe Egypt Logina Salah is also making her mark as a person with vitiligo to compete in the beauty pageant. She also advocates for vitiligo to raise awareness about the disease.

Miss Universe Somalia Khadija Omar will be the first hijabi woman to represent Somalia at Miss Universe. Born in the Hagadera refugee camp in Kenya, Khadija emigrated to Canada in 2010 and now uses her platform as a beauty influencer to advocate for inclusivity.

Filipinos are throwing their support behind Chelsea Manalo, the country’s first Black Filipino-American representative, to win the Philippines’ fifth Miss Universe crown.

They also go ginger for three half-Filipino candidates, namely New Zealand’s Victoria Velasquez Vincent, Britain’s Christina dela Cruz Chalk and Bahrain’s Shereen Ahmed.

Which African countries are they contesting?

Among the African candidates for Miss Universe 2024 are Angola, Botswana, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, Egypt, Eritrea, Guinea, Kenya and Mauritius.
