Cardiff City interim manager Omer Riza has traveled to Malaysia for talks with club owner Vincent Tan.

Riza, 44, had been seeking clarification on her temporary position since Erol Bulut’s dismissal two months ago.

It is not yet clear whether the face-to-face discussions indicate that Riza will get the chance to lead the Championship team permanently.

Following last weekend’s defeat to Blackburn Rovers, the former Watford manager said he I didn’t know if he remained in the Cardiff dugout after the current international break.

Cardiff had been keen to explore all management options after dismissal of Bulut on September 22 following a run which has seen the team pick up just one point from their opening eight league matches in 2024-25.

Riza was installed to allow the club to take its time in the look for a new boss, which was led by general manager Ken Choo.

But there was also a desire to give Riza a chance to impress after the former Arsenal player made it clear he felt he could succeed in his position.

Despite a lack of frontline management experience, Riza has overseen a marked improvement in form and style of play, with 14 points collected during his nine games at the helm.

Riza reportedly had a healthy relationship with Tan during his tenure, with regular phone conversations between the two.

But this will be the first time they will speak in person, with at least some clarity on the expected situation.

There were calls – including former Cardiff and Wales striker Nathan Blake – that the club makes a quick decision.
