Two people have been charged after Saskatchewan RCMP seized 31 firearms from a residence in Laflèche and a rural yard south of the city.

Police officers from the Swift Current Human Trafficking Response Team in Saskatchewan, Dog Services, the Gravelbourg RCMP Detachment, the National Anti-Firearms Support Team and the “The Regina Police Service Crime Reduction Team executed search warrants on November 8 at approximately 11:25 a.m.,” the news release stated.

Assiniboia RCMP also assisted in the investigation, the release states.

In addition to the 31 firearms, all of which police say were stored unsafely or loaded, RCMP said officers also found and seized ammunition, brass knuckles, five prohibited devices and a small amount of psilocybin, commonly known as magic mushrooms.

“This removal of dangerous weapons from our community is a great example of how Saskatchewan police services – and RCMP units – work collaboratively to promote public safety,” said State Sgt. -major. Danny Donison, director of the Saskatchewan Enforcement Response Teams (SERT) southern region, said in the release.

RCMP said a stolen vehicle was also recovered. Two men and a woman were arrested at the residence, but one man was released without charges.

A 46-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman, both from Laflèche, are charged with careless storage of firearms, storage of loaded firearms, possession of firearms without a license, possession of prohibited devices and knowingly possessing firearms without a license.

The man also faces five other weapons-related charges, as well as one count of possession of property obtained by crime worth more than $5,000.

The man first appeared in Moose Jaw provincial court on November 12 and is scheduled to appear again on December 12. The woman is scheduled to appear in Assiniboia court on January 9, 2025.

Lafleche, Saskatchewan. is located approximately 204 kilometers southwest of Regina.
