Next round of rain/snow will cut off north-central Montana

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect for the mountains of central and southwest Montana from 2 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday.

A HIGH WIND WATCH is in effect for locations between the Division and I-15 in north-central Montana, part of Cascade County, and part of Judith Basin County from 8:00 p.m. Saturday to 2:00 p.m./5:00 p.m. Sunday.

We will have mostly clear skies and mostly dry conditions tonight. It will also be cool tonight, as lows will be in the 20s in most places. We will also have wind diminishing this evening, with just a light breeze overnight, although it will remain breezy through the night along the Rocky Mountain front.

For tomorrow, we will have increasing clouds with rain/snow development during the afternoon and evening across central Montana, including around Helena and Lewistown. There will then be areas of rain and snow tomorrow evening, generally in central Montana, including around Helena and Lewistown, and in northeastern Montana, including around Glasgow, as a disturbance crosses our region. Around Great Falls and Havre, some rain and snow are possible tomorrow evening/night, but most of the precipitation with this storm will stay south and east of a line from Great Falls to Havre. North and west of this line, the weather will be mostly dry tomorrow evening/night. We will then have decreasing clouds on Saturday with some areas of snow and rain around in the morning, mainly over central and northeastern Montana, with this disturbance moving out of our area.

In lower elevation locations that see some snow from this disturbance, light snow accumulations of up to 3 or 4 inches are possible. In the mountains, snow accumulation of 2 to 8 inches is possible, with isolated amounts higher. Most of the snow accumulation with this storm system will miss north-central Montana, as most of north-central Montana will see little to no snow accumulation.

We will also get a well-deserved break from the wind tomorrow! It will then be windy along the Rocky Mountain Front on Saturday, as sustained wind speeds will be between 15 and 35 mph, and it will be windy in some areas east of the Rocky Mountain Front on Saturday, as wind speeds will be sustained. are going to be between 10 and 20 mph. Temperatures will also cool down a bit over these two days, as highs will be in the 40s and 50s on Friday, and in the 30s and 40s on Saturday.

Sunday we will have partly to mostly cloudy skies with a few rain and snow showers, mostly in the mountains, as another disturbance begins to affect our area. It will also be very windy Sunday, as sustained wind speeds will be between 15 and 35 mph, and wind gusts exceeding 50 mph are possible. We will also have warmer temperatures on Sunday, as high temperatures will be in the mid to upper 40s and mid to low 50s.

There will then be a few scattered snow showers around the Helena area on Monday and we will have mostly dry conditions in north-central Montana on Monday as another disturbance moves through our area. We will also have partly to mostly cloudy skies and cooler temperatures on Monday, as high temperatures will be in the mid to upper 30s and low to mid 40s in most locations. Gusty winds are also expected Monday, as sustained wind speeds will be between 10 and 30 mph, and wind gusts above 40 mph are possible.

We will then have partly to mostly sunny skies and generally dry conditions Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday as high pressure returns to our area. It will also be windy in some areas during these three days, as sustained winds will be between 10 and 20 mph. Temperatures will also warm up over these three days, as highs will be in the mid to upper 40s and low 40s on Tuesday, mid to upper 30s and mid to mid 30s. 40s Wednesday, and mid to upper 40s and low 50s Thursday.
