Connor McDavid reacts after reaching milestone alongside Leon Draisaitl, Darnell Nurse

The legend grows. Connor McDavid continues to pride himself on being one of the greatest hockey players to ever grace the ice. He became the the fourth fastest in NHL history reach 1,000 career pointsscoring a goal against the Nashville Predators in the first period to achieve this incredible feat in front of his family and home crowd. What made the moment even more celebratory was that he captured it in the presence of his longtime teammates.

Leon Draisaitl found the three-time Hart Memorial Trophy winner’s one-timer on a two-on-one break to help him enter the 1,000-point club. McDavid then scored another point on an assist, which proved oh so crucial. He teamed up with Darnell Nurse in overtime to power the Oilers to a 3-2 win over the Predators. It was an electric night for the beloved center and for Edmonton as a whole.

Oilers’ Connor McDavid puts his accomplishment into perspective

Draisaitl and Nurse made their franchise debuts in 2014, a year before McDavid himself wore royal blue, orange and white. They were each just 19 years old when they wore their first jerseys for the Oilers, meaning they shared a wealth of experiences both inside and outside of Rogers Place. This fact is particularly striking Conn Smythe Trophy 2024 hard recipient after its significant release.

“I said in a lot of ways we {Draisaitl and Nurse} kind of grew up on this ice, playing in front of these fans and this city,” McDavid said via NHL PR. “It’s a special night and one I’ll never forget.”

These core players poured cold water all over Edmonton, waking the team from its decade-long slumber and catapulting it to the top of the Western Conference in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs. They failed to erase a 3-0 deficit in the finals, losing to the Florida Panthers in game seven. Connor McDavid now hopes to lead his team to another memorable series.

But he will also have time to savor this spectacular individual feat. The best of his generation has 19 points so far this season and looks to score more when the Oilers visit the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night.
