Redevelopment of Golden Manor in Timmins, Ontario. takes an important step in construction

The City of Timmins, Ontario is celebrating a milestone in the redevelopment of the Golden Manor long-term care home. A beam-laying ceremony, which is a construction tradition, was held to celebrate the completion of the structural phase of the project.

Mayor Michelle Boileau was joined by Timmins MLA George Pirie, City Councilor John Curley, members of the construction team and project staff from the city and Golden Manor.

“The girder laying ceremony not only represents a significant milestone in construction, but it also recognizes the efforts and hard work of the engineering and construction teams,” Boileau said.

“They are building the future home of Golden Manor. This is a generational project for the community. We must ensure that accessible and effective long-term care is available to meet the needs of older adults and those who require assisted care.

The second phase of the Golden Manor redevelopment continues with contractors now focused on closing the building, which includes adding exterior walls, windows, insulation and roofing. Interior mechanical work is also starting.

The new 192-bed home will replace the current 177-bed facility with more space and better accessibility.
