Snow forecast for the Sea to Sky corridor

British Columbia’s Sea to Sky region, which includes Squamish, Whistler and Pemberton, could receive its first significant snowfall of the season this weekend, according to Environment Canada.

In a special weather statement issued Friday morning, the federal weather agency announced that five to ten centimeters of snow would be possible on Saturday.

“A frontal system will arrive on Saturday, bringing rain to the coast and snow to areas further inland,” the advisory said. “Snow is expected to start early Saturday morning and mix with rain later in the day. The precipitation will stop Saturday evening.

Temperatures in the region will hover around 0°C, meaning forecasters aren’t sure how much snow will accumulate on the ground.

Environment Canada also reminded drivers using the Sea to Sky Highway to prepare for winter conditions and reduced visibility.

Meanwhile, Whistler Blackcomb says 40 centimeters of snow have fallen in the mountains over the past two days, with more expected over the weekend.

The snowfall is good news for skiers and snowboarders who are eagerly awaiting the resort’s opening day, a week from Friday, November 22.
