ForbesTips and Answers from Today’s NYT “Connections” for Friday, November 15 (#523)

Welcome to the weekend, friends! I hope you have some fun projects in the works. It’s my partner’s birthday, so we’re going to spend some quality time together. I bought her a few fun gifts, so I hope she enjoys them.

Today New York Times Relationships advice and answers for Saturday, November 16 are coming soon.

How to play connections

Relationships is a free and popular program New York Times daily pun. You receive a new puzzle every day at midnight. You can play on the New York Times website or the Games app.

A grid of 16 words is presented to you. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by determining the links that unite them. Groups can be things like clickable items, names of participants in a research study, or words preceded by a body part.

There is only one solution to each puzzle, and you will need to be careful when dealing with words that can fit into multiple categories. You can mix up the words to perhaps help you see the connections between them.

Each group is color coded. The yellow group is generally the easiest to understand, blue and green are in the middle, and the purple group is generally the most difficult. The purple group often involves puns.

Select four words that you think go together and press Submit. If you make a guess and are wrong, you will lose a life. If you’re close to having a decent group, you may see a message telling you that you’re one word away from succeeding, but you’ll still need to figure out which one to swap.

If you make four mistakes, the game is over. Let’s make sure this doesn’t happen with the help of a few clues, and, if you’re really struggling, today’s post Relationships answers. As with Word and other similar games, it’s easy to share the results with your friends on social networks and group chats.

If you have a New York Times All Access or Games subscription, you can access the Relationships archive. This includes all previous games from Relationshipsso you can go back and play the ones you missed.

Aside from the first 60 or so games, you should be able to find my tips for each grid via Google if you need them! Just Click here and add the date of the game for which you need clues or answers to the search query.

What are the answers to today’s connections?

Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll any further until you’re ready to check out today’s news. Relationships answers.

This is your final warning!

Today Relationships the answers are…

  • Yellow group — items that prevent leaks (CAP, COVER, PLUG, SEAL)
  • Green group — hat types (BERET, DERBY, PILLBOX, SNAPBACK)
  • Blue Group – College Football Team Members (GATOR, SOONER, VOLUNTEER, WOLVERINE)
  • Purple group — go ____ (BANANAS, COMMANDO, FIGURE, ROGUE)

My last streak is over after four wins. This is how I behaved today:

I thought the words related to hat were a red herring, since CAP had meaning with yellows. I’m not entirely sure what I was thinking when I thought of BERET, COMMANDO, VOLUNTEER, and ROGUE, but it made sense in my mind at the time.

I have to admit that I’m not very knowledgeable about American sports, especially at the college level, but I thought (Oklahoma) SOONER, (Kentucky) DERBY and (Florida) GATOR could have been part of a group. I just didn’t know what could come with them. I tried BANANAS (like the wonderful Savannah Bananas), but no dice. I wasn’t even close to a group there.

I didn’t know where to go from there, so I made a few random guesses and came up short every time. Turns out I wasn’t a million miles from figuring things out, so I don’t feel too bad.

When I first saw the answers I wondered what a DERBY hat was because I had never heard of it that way. It’s a bowler hat where I come from. I was also on the right track with the Blues. But I doubt I would have known what a Tennessee VOLUNTEER or a Michigan WOLVERINE was if there was one right in front of me.

As for the purple ones, yeah, I probably should have figured them out. It was just a little too loose a connection for me.

That’s all there is to say for today Relationships clues and answers. Be sure to check my blog for tips and solution for Sunday’s game if you need it.

PS A while ago I spent a few weeks recommending a ton of Scottish artists. I can’t believe I left this guy out.

Paolo Nutini has such a rich voice. I loved his first album but I have to admit I haven’t listened to much of his work since. His first single is catchy as hell:
