Lioness Season 2 Episode 5 Recap: Warehouse Bankruptcy Takes a Darker Turn

At this point in the series, Joe is pissing everyone off. But will the activism here bear fruit? The stakes are higher in Lioness Season 2 Episode 5 – and for once, she’s torn.

THE binge-worthy TV show follows the overarching plot to take down the Mexican drug cartel Los Tigres, which is linked to team member Josephina through her father Pablo.

Joe has been trying to use it as inside intelligence since Episode 2but their relationship got off to a rocky start. Today, she faces the ultimatum of her life.

On top of that, the team just discovered a warehouse smuggling children across the border, but Joe decided to leave them behind. Does the team support her decision in Lioness Season 2 Episode 5? Warning: spoilers ahead.

The team’s confidence hits rock bottom in Lioness Season 2 Episode 5

Team Lioness in season 2, episode 5

Team Lioness returns from the warehouse and returns to Bliss absolutely furious. Cruz immediately questions how Joe conducted the arrest, while Joe goes after the Mexican special agent for having bad information (they’re looking for drugs, there aren’t any). There is now a greater worry about children hanging over their heads, but no one has any answers.

Back in the CIA secure room, Joe transmits the images to Kaitlyn. She explains that the children have to cross the border, but that there are no narcotics there. As Joe indicates she wants to save them, Kaitlyn orders him to “leave them behind”, saying it looks like an attack from a rebel cartel. American hands look clean, and that’s what she wants.

Joe reports this to the team, who kick off. She reminds them that “this is not a democracy”, suggesting that they return to Dallas. Josephina says that’s not what she signed up for, asking to be called to court so she can testify against Joe. It’s up to Cruz to make things right, with Kyle questioning Joe for letting the team form their own opinions.

Joe pulls Bobby aside, telling her she needs to check her email. One of the kids has a tracker in his shoe, which Joe planted there. Bobby is secretly tasked with finding where the children are crossing, with the special agent hypothetically stating that he could intercept them. Without violating the restrictions, they come up with a plan to monitor him.

As Josephina shares her concern over what happened, Cruz reveals that she is there to “protect the mission’s mission”, which includes her. Cruz asks Josephina if her father is a “sheep or a saint”, alluding to the fact that they are all fighting for the common good – even if it’s not a total victory.

Pablo is the new target

Joe is briefed by Kaitlyn in Lioness

The team is soon on their way to Dallas, and attention once again turns to the video surveillance installed in Pablo’s house during Episode 3. Joe tells Cruz that Josephina must believe her father is not the target, which is true. After discussing the situation, Joe leaves with a new sense of appreciation for Cruz’s intelligence. She calls Kaitlyn to tell her she wants to explain something in person at the base.

The presidential candidates complain to Kaitlyn that she hasn’t shared any security plans, with Kaitlyn keeping them completely in the dark about what’s going on with the cartel. Joe apologizes to Josephina, suggesting she tell her father the truth about what they are doing. If he obeys, his family is kept safe. If he says no, they will raid his house and destroy him.

Josephina is tasked with presenting him with both choices, with Joe confirming that they are only going after his contacts at this point. The team disembarks the plane, with Joe remaining on board. They settle in to watch over Pablo’s house while Joe says she’s giving Cruz more freedom than she’s ever had in the same position. Kaitlyn, however, is worried.

Joe calls Neal from the plane, explaining that she has a “way out” so she can spend more time with the family. He takes the kids on a double date with Kate’s new boyfriend. Cruz and Josephina arrive at her father’s house and she is having trouble breathing. Cruz warns that she needs to get her act together or they will both be killed. Joe meets up with the second half of Bliss’ team, who are waiting to intercept the cartel at the border.

Border interception ends disastrously

Cruz and Josephina enter the house, with Josephina explaining that she feels like she barely knows her parents. She left home at 18, and that was pretty much the end of it. Cruz gives her the pep talk she needs, pointing out what a criminal her father really is.

They sit at the dining room table, where Josephine reveals “the truth.” Pablo launches into a homophobic rant about how dishonoring a woman is a terrible decision for a new army to make. He tries to make her see things against the grain of the system, referring to a cycle of despair that goes on and on.

Meanwhile, at the border, Team Lioness – with additional American soldiers – intercepts Mexican smugglers, causing casualties on both sides. As our main cast begins to approach the children and pull them to safety, a man can be seen emerging from the crowd through a sniper’s thermal censor. He throws a grenade, blowing up the entire group. The Lionesses appear unharmed, but the others (including the children) are gone.
