Mississauga man hospitalized after possible targeted shooting in Peel Region

A man was shot in Mississauga and taken to hospital Saturday in what initially appears to be a targeted shooting, Peel Regional Police said.

The man, who police said was in his 40s, was found with “multiple gunshot wounds” just after 12:30 p.m. in a plaza in the 1200 block of Eglington, near Dixie Road, a police officer said. Peel Regional Police spokesperson.

He was taken to hospital and is not life-threatening, police said.

An investigation is underway and police have no concrete information on the suspect, who is believed to have left the scene.

Peel Regional Police spokesperson Ty Bell-Morena said: in a video update a few hours later, that it was unclear at this time whether the man shot multiple times was the intended victim of the shooting.

Investigators have gathered preliminary information about a possible suspect fleeing in a vehicle or fleeing the scene on foot.

But Peel Regional Police spokesperson Bell-Morena said it was too early to determine whether these individuals were real suspects or local citizens fleeing the shooting.

Police are urging anyone who was driving in the area around 12:30 yesterday afternoon and whose vehicle is equipped with a dash camera to contact investigators from Peel Regional Police’s 12th Division at 905-453- 3311, ext. 1233.
