Rewind everything Hugh Freeze said to recap Louisiana-Monroe, Texas A&M preview

Coming off a 48-14 win over Louisiana-Monroe, Auburn Football now prepares for the first of two Southeastern Conference games to close out the regular season.

Next up for the Tigers is Texas A&M, an opponent that beat Auburn 27-10 in College Station last season. Hugh Freeze is scheduled to meet the media at 1 p.m. to preview the next match.

Follow live updates from Freeze’s Monday press conference below:

  • Freeze starts by saying that he thinks the team played well against ULM. Highlighted the performance of the offense and defense on third downs.
  • Freeze says Texas A&M is loaded with NFL defensive talent.
  • Freeze said getting playmakers involved early and winning on the first down are two of the most important things for the offense.
  • Freeze says Ian Vachon will continue to handle the field goal duties for Auburn this season. He added that he thinks Towns McGough’s future is “extremely bright,” but he doesn’t want to move away from Vachon who has yet to miss a field goal.
  • When asked about the matchup with Marcel Reed, Freeze said they were “pretty horrible” at containing mobile quarterbacks early in the season, but thought they got better as the season went on. Adds that they will rely on previous games when game planning for Reed.
  • Freeze says Demarcus Riddick is a big factor in slowing down mobile quarterbacks. Added: “We changed when we started playing it.”
  • Freeze says he “doesn’t do a lot of that” when asked if he has conversations with current players regarding recruiting. Said the personnel department handles most of these conversations. He also thanked Jason Campbell for representing the collective.
  • Asked about the week-to-week success, Freeze said, “our kids kept fighting.” He added that the victory against ULM gave a lot of confidence to the team, especially the young players.
