Adults get a second chance at high school graduation

LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – A program is giving adults a second chance to finish what they started. Texasworks is a free initiative that helps adults who want to earn their high school diploma.

For many adults, life’s obstacles have forced them to put their education on hold. Today, Texasworks offers people ages 18 to 50 a second chance to earn their degrees in a flexible and supportive environment.

For students like Maria Hernandez, Texasworks was a game-changer, saying after years of work, she decided to take a risk.

“I stopped by to ask for information and I liked what I heard about the program and decided to sign up,” Hernandez said.

She (Hernandez) says she is not only doing it for herself, but also to set an example for her daughter.

Noting: “It’s never too late to start. Your dreams can come true, and with hard work and dedication, you can succeed.

The program picks up where the student left off, so if the individual has not completed a semester or year of school, the courses will fill that educational gap.

Students also have the option to earn a medical assistant certificate with their degree, according to Texasworks Campus Director Veronica Khan.

Khan adds that she has seen first-hand how the program has changed the lives of many of her students.

Mentioning, “It gives them hope that they will be able to complete something and then move on if they want to go to college.” With this medical certificate, it gives them a chance to open doors for themselves and their families and motivate them to continue their studies.

Programs like Texasworks remind you that it’s never too late to finish what you start.

The program is free for adults aged 18 to 50 and offers flexible and personalized support.
