Showers return Wednesday, cold and windy weekend

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – We’re giving you the first warning of a strong cold front that will produce showers Wednesday before cold air rushes in to end the work week.

TODAY

Partly cloudy weather and a cool new start will have many of you leaving the house with a light jacket this morning. Temperatures will start again in the 40s and 50s this morning before warming into the 70s this afternoon.

Expect clouds to build with another mild day ahead.

As we move into the afternoon, expect clouds to thicken, leading to mostly cloudy skies. We don’t expect any rain in the forecast for the afternoon plans, so be sure to get out and enjoy the 70s while we have them.

POWERFUL COLD FRONT

A strong cold front will move into the area on Wednesday. Scattered showers will be ahead of the front with chances of rain beginning overnight and early Wednesday morning. Expect a mild and windy Wednesday with the best chance for showers early in the day.

As we head through the afternoon we will keep an isolated chance of showers with mostly cloudy skies. We don’t expect significant precipitation totals for Wednesday, but we expect many locations to still reach the 70s by Wednesday afternoon.

Even with the return of showers forecast for Wednesday, we do not expect significant rain.

As the front moves offshore Wednesday evening, much cooler weather will blow through the region with a gusty northwest wind.

COLD TEMPERATURES

With the return of the sun, don’t expect a hot weekend. Temperatures will drop with afternoon highs only reaching the mid to upper 50s Thursday and Friday. A gusty wind – sometimes reaching 30 mph – will make it feel even colder for both days. Morning temperatures will dip into the 30s and 40s for this last bus stop of the week. Parents, you’ll want to make sure kids wear a heavier jacket or coat for the bus stop.
