The story of Maharashtra’s agrarian distress told in soybean and cotton: Congress criticizes Mahayuti

The Congress on Tuesday (November 19) asserted that Maharashtra’s history of agrarian distress is reflected in the soybean and cotton crops, which are being procured at much lower than the minimum support price (MSP) due to the reluctance of the Mahayuti government to respond to this request. his promises.

Congress general secretary (in-charge of communications) Jairam Ramesh pointed out that the MVA has guaranteed legal status to MSP for farmers and promised a price of Rs 7,000 per quintal of soybean.

“A story of Maharashtra’s agrarian distress, told in two harvests…” Ramesh posted on X.

“Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis promised Rs 6,000 per quintal of soybean in 2013 and announced MSP of Rs 4,892 MSP this year. Currently, soybean is being sold between Rs 3,200 and Rs 4,200 per quintal,” he wrote.

Talking about cotton, Ramesh said that during the tenure of the MVA government, cotton cost Rs 12,000 to Rs 12,500 per quintal. Today, the same cotton is being sold at throwaway prices, causing massive losses to farmers, Ramesh alleged.
