WASHINGTON, November 20. /TASS/. The US Department of Defense confirmed to a TASS correspondent that the administration had authorized the use of antipersonnel mines in Ukraine.

“I can confirm that the administration has approved the use of antipersonnel mines in Ukraine,” a Pentagon official said, commenting on the Washington Post article.

The official said the Ukrainian side pledged not to use mines in areas populated by civilians.

He also explained that these are non-persistent mines that become inert after a predefined period of time.

Earlier, the Washington Post reported that Biden authorized the delivery of antipersonnel mines to Ukraine, reversing his administration’s previous policy that prohibited the transfer and use of U.S. antipersonnel mines outside the Korean Peninsula.
