There is a 24/7 streaming channel showing every episode of Top Gear for free

If you’re a fan of the old school Higher speedyou may have thought once or twice to search for it on modern streaming platforms. Needless to say, this can be a challenge, particularly for those of us who don’t live within the BBC’s traditional coverage area. I can watch The Great British Pastry Show on Netflix all day, but original cuts of Clarkson-Hammond-May era TG are much harder to find, especially if you rely on Google.

But forget about search engines; we want piston engines – and rotary engines, and jet engines, and rocket engines, and, well, you get the idea. And if you’re like us, you’re in luck. You can stream original, full episodes (as far as we know, anyway) of the BBC series at your leisure on several free, ad-supported platforms, including Pluto TV, Amazon’s Freevee (which is stand out in the broader Prime Video portfolio) and Plex.

We found it on Pluto TV, which offers not one, but two ways to watch classic episodes. You can set it to Higher speed channel and simply let Pluto stream the series in order (we’ll call this “daytime TV style”), or you can explore individual episodes on demand.

And if you’re expecting the same repackaged episodes you’ve seen on American television, you might be pleasantly surprised. From what we’ve had time to sample, it appears that all episodes appear in their original, unedited length, including the entirety of “Star in a Reasonably Priced Car.” segments. Yes, even the early ones, where it’s pretty clear that the BBC just booked whatever random celebrity happened to be walking down the hall that day.

That said, the most pure and hard Higher speed fans will know that this isn’t exactly news. The BBC has been expanding the availability of its existing portfolio across various streaming services for years, and based on a quick search it appears that Higher speed entered rotation at the end of 2022. There is also, shall we say, less scrupulous ways to watch classics TG episodes, but anyone who was paying attention 15 years ago already knows them. The fact that this free channel is both legal and easy to access makes it a no-brainer and, if you’re like us, it will probably replace any mindless background programming you usually leave on your TV for hours on end.
