The DU will extend the reassessment option to law students, then to other professional training

Delhi University (DU) will introduce a revaluation option for its law students, allowing them to apply for revaluation of their answer sheets, a facility previously unavailable. According to university officials, this option will be implemented for LLB students from the next academic year. It will gradually expand to include students in management, medicine and other professional fields.

Most DU undergraduate and postgraduate courses already offer the possibility of reassessment.

“This change will ensure that students of professional courses will also have the opportunity to seek re-evaluation if they feel that their answers have not been properly evaluated,” a DU official was quoted as saying by news agency PTI .

The DU Faculty of Law, which has more than 10,000 students, will be the first to benefit from the reassessment system. Currently, DU charges Rs 1,000 per paper for revaluation and Rs 750 per paper for rechecking, which only involves recounting of marks without revaluation of answers.

Students can also get copies of their answer sheets at Rs 1,000 per copy. This fee applies uniformly to all courses and is subject to periodic review as noted on the DU website.

Additionally, officials believe the move will benefit students while promoting greater accountability in the evaluation process.

“This move will help all students to be able to apply for revaluation and will also ensure that teachers are more careful while checking answer sheets,” the official adds.

The university intends to release detailed guidelines on revaluation for law students soon, with similar provisions to be followed for management and medical students.
