Clemson City Council discusses funding for affordable housing

CLEMSON, SC (FOX Carolina) – The Clemson City Council held a meeting to discuss the use of Tax Increment Financing (TIF) to fund affordable housing.

This would provide approximately 17 acres of land on which approximately 35 to 45 housing units would be built in the Abel, Cadillac Heights and Uptown area.

The units would be specifically aimed at people living below the area median income, which is about $65,000 a year. The goal is to help people get their first home, which is a goal of the city.

“It has been a goal of the city for some time to retain people who serve citizens in the same city where they serve citizens,” said Tripp Muldrow, principal at Arnett, Muldrow and Associates. “And the idea of living next to the police officer and firefighter who work in the city and not letting them live in another jurisdiction.”

It was mentioned that if a resident owns property in the area, taxes will not increase.

A public meeting will be held on December 2
