PDP faces extinction and may no longer exist in 2027, says Bode George

Olabode George, former National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has said the party may be on the brink of extinction and not be able to contest the 2027 general elections if nothing is done by the leaders to save the party.

George said the main opposition party is in deep trouble due to the selfish interests of a few individuals bent on selling out the party to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

George, said this at a press conference to commemorate his 79th birthday on Thursday in Lagos, noting that members and leaders of the PDP must use the upcoming National Convention to save the party.

The elder statesman said while the party leadership was doing its best to ensure all members had a sense of belonging, some selfish politicians were doing all they could to thwart their efforts.

He called for a united PDP, adding that the founding fathers of the party who had gone to the world beyond would weep in their graves because the party has become a shadow of its former self due to the selfish interests of some members.

The PDP board member, BoT, described as disheartening and pitiful a situation where some pretentious members were already working for the ruling APC in the build-up to the 2027 elections.

“As a loyal party man who lives, thinks, speaks, breathes and defends the PDP, I have never left this party since its inception; Today is therefore an excellent opportunity to deliberate on the future of our party.

“Even as the party leadership prepares to meet on November 28 in Abuja to chart a way forward, I have a duty to openly declare that all is not well in our party. In fact, our party is going off the rails.

“It is unfortunate because the crisis within our party has further complicated the current tragedy of the socio-economic indices of our dear nation.

“I am sounding the alarm today that our party stands on the brink of a dangerous looming crisis if critical outstanding issues are not urgently resolved.

“If the PDP is to save Nigerians from the brutal rule of the APC in 2027, this must be a major topic on the agenda of our NEC meeting in Abuja,” George said.

Expressing his belief that PDP was the only party capable of saving Nigeria, George said the party must be ready to seize the opportunity to move the country forward.

According to him, the party must not allow disloyal elements to continue using the platform for their selfish interests, saying disloyalty is a very serious offense.
