“We will never forget you”: Harshita Brella’s family pays tribute | UK News

The family of Harshita Brella, found dead in the boot of a car in east London, have said they will “never forget you until our last breath”.

They said in a tribute by Northamptonshire Police on Friday: “Harshita, you have left this world but you are still with us in our hearts and you will always be there. We will never forget you until our last breath. Always stay with us. We miss you every moment of our lives.

The body of Brella, 24, was found in the boot of a vehicle in Ilford, east London, in the early hours of November 14. Detectives believe she was killed in Corby, Northamptonshire, on the evening of November 10.

Her husband, Pankaj Lamba, 23, is the main suspect in the murder and police believe he fled the country.

Brella, an Indian citizen, was living in Northamptonshire after moving to the UK in April shortly after an arranged marriage to Lamba.

Northamptonshire Police on Thursday released CCTV footage showing Brella and Lamba at Corby boating lake on the evening she was allegedly killed, as detectives appealed for witnesses who may have seen them to come forward.

“Any information you have can help us piece together exactly what happened to Harshita and bring her killer to justice,” said DCI Johnny Campbell, of the East Midlands Major Crime Special Operations Unit.

Brella’s family, who lives in India, criticized the police and said they failed to protect her after she filed a complaint about domestic violence by her husband weeks before her death.

“I don’t think the police did enough to help her or protect my sister,” said her older sister, Sonia Dabas. told the Guardian. “She reported her abuse, but the police procedures made her feel even more afraid and alone. This brought her back to Pankaj.

Northamptonshire Deputy Chief Constable Emma James said Brella had been identified as being at high risk of domestic violence and had assigned an independent domestic violence advisor, and a safety plan had been formulated.

She said Brella was placed in a shelter and visited by police on several occasions, while “the alleged perpetrator was identified, quickly arrested and released on conditional bail”.

A 28-day domestic violence protection order was authorized by Northampton Magistrates’ Court on September 5, Jones said, while investigations against the alleged perpetrator continued.

Northamptonshire Police have contacted the Independent Office for Police Conduct due to their previous contact with Brella, and an investigation into the domestic homicides is ongoing internally.
