Cool, sunny day before warm-up

After the sun and comfortable temperatures of the weekend, today will be cool with values between 50 and 50 degrees. Although no warnings have been issued about a high fire risk, the air is still quite dry, as are any leaves on the ground, and therefore bushfires remain a risk, so care should be taken additional precautions.

High pressure will move away from offshore tonight, allowing a return of milder air to begin tomorrow. Depending on when the warmer air arrives this evening and whether clouds arrive will determine how cool it will be. If we stay completely clear until morning, many of you could see temperatures in the mid to upper 20s coastally early Tuesday.

High temperatures are forecast for New England on Monday.Boston Globe

The average first frost date in Boston is only the first week of November, so it is not unusual for the growing season to continue in the city.

Temperatures Tuesday will be a little better, generally between 55 and 60 degrees in the afternoon with winds veering to the south. A warm front moves through the area Tuesday evening with some clouds and the chance of a light shower, but nothing significant. Behind that, temperatures are really warming up and on Wednesday our readings will reach the 70s with a mix of clouds and sunshine.

It’s even milder on Thursday, Halloween Day, with temperatures between 75 and 80 degrees, one of the hottest Halloweens on record. The record temperature for October 31 is 81 degrees compared to 1946, and we are indeed going to strive for it.

We saw a trace of snow on Halloween, but it was also 81 degrees.NOAA

Friday becomes a little more seasonal but still above average with readings in the upper 60s. A small light shower is forecast in the morning with the passage of a front. The weekend is currently looking dry with seasonal temperatures in the upper 50s and approaching 60 degrees.

THE lack of rain will continue for much of this week and drought will get worse. As I have mentioned several times over the past month, droughts at this time of year are not as severe as they would be in summer; however, bushfires and falling plants still occur due to lack of rain. If you planted anything this year, I suggest giving it a good drink at least once a week until we see a return to normal rainfall.

Southern New England: Look for lots of sunshine today with temperatures in the low to mid 50s as well as light winds.

Western New England: Some of the higher elevations will struggle to reach 50 this afternoon with plenty of sunshine. It got back to the 20s and 30s overnight tonight.

Cape and Islands: Plenty of sunshine greets this area today with temperatures in the 50s. The temperature remains above freezing near the water, but some inland areas could dip below 32 in the morning.

Northern New England: Bright sunshine with temperatures in the upper 40s is the rule for today. It will be cold tonight with temperatures dropping into the 20s for a severe frost.
