Christian Horner clears up rumor that Red Bull forgot rear wing

Christian Horner has mocked the rumor that Red Bull forgot to bring a low downforce rear wing to Las Vegas, joking that these things “can happen” before insisting that it doesn’t. is not what happened.

Max Verstappen was just 17th in second practice, two seconds behind leader Lewis Hamilton and 1.998 seconds slower than title rival Lando Norris, who he must beat by three points to wrap up the championship this weekend.

Asked about the rear wing rumor, Horner clarified Sky F1 meant the one who claimed Red Bull was “forgetting it”, the team boss said: “Well, you know it can happen… No, we haven’t forgotten a rear wing.”

Asked about the wing problem, he insisted: “There’s no problem with it, I’m not sure where it comes from.

“But we don’t have a wing specifically designed for very low downforce, which is potentially the case here and at Monza. I mean, the money involved in creating this, within the cost cap, you have to choose where you’re going to spend it.

“So the wing that we have, you end up cutting it to get to top speed and that’s what many, many teams have done.”

Showing a better top speed in Friday’s final practice where Verstappen finished fifth, Horner admitted: “Everything is fine. You use different engine modes and the whole world is very different.

“So yes, we haven’t forgotten our rear wing.”

Verstappen heads into Saturday night’s 50-lap race 62 points ahead of Norris in the overall standings. Drivers’ Championship while Red Bull is third among the constructors, 49 points behind McLaren.
