Highlands defense shines with four interceptions in win over Pulaski County

FORT THOMAS, Ky. (WKRC) – Gabe Williams threw two interceptions and Rio Litmer threw three touchdown passes in Highlands’ 42-18 victory over Pulaski County in the KHSAA Class 5A quarterfinals.

Pulaski would find itself 10-0 early after a 50-yard rushing touchdown and a field goal, but the Bluebirds would answer in the second quarter on a Tayden Lorenzen touchdown run and an Adam Surrey rushing score from two yards out. Litmer would throw a touchdown to Williams to extend the Highlands lead to 21-10 in the third quarter, and a pick six three minutes later from Ethan Grimm would extend that lead. Tyrus McCarter would provide another boost to the Bluebirds defense via another interception, and Ian Garrahan would ensure Highlands took advantage of a Litmer touchdown pass.

The Maroons would respond with a touchdown and a two-point conversion to make the score 35-18, but Adam Surrey would provide additional insurance for the Highlands on a long touchdown pass. Williams’ second interception of the night came at the 9:45 mark of the fourth quarter, and the Bluebirds headed to the finish line.

Highlands wins its KHSAA state tournament region and improves to 12-2 on the year. The Maroons are 9-5 at the end of their season.
