“I really wanted to fight”

Hugh Frozen met with reporters late Saturday night following Auburn’s thrilling overtime victory over Texas A&M.

Auburn was on the wrong end of a highly controversial double overtime. The Tigers would have had first and goal inside the 5-yard line after a big play, but the gain was instead erased due to an offensive pass interference call.

The ESPN broadcast — as well as fans and media — were quick to criticize the call because it didn’t seem like the play should have been reported to OPI. Here’s a replay:

While Auburn’s victory certainly did much to ease the controversy, Freeze still admitted to some frustrations after the game when he spoke with reporters.

“I don’t know if I’ve ever wanted to fight so much.” Freeze said. “I really wanted to fight at that point…I’m going to have to watch it. It looked on the screen like there really was no contact during the selection call. I’ll have to see it on film to be 100% sure.

“But it certainly didn’t feel good. I was furious and not very happy.

Auburn ended up having to settle for a field goal on that drive. However, the Tigers forced a Texas A&M field goal attempt to extend the game into a third overtime.

Auburn will close out the 2024 season against Alabama next weekend.
