We now hear from residents of a flood-hit street in Wales who are criticizing Natural Resources Wales for not doing enough to prevent flooding.

Paula Williams, whose house is on Sion Street – just beside the River Taff in Pontypridd – says: “We do as much preparation as possible when we know there is going to be a problem.

“The river level was falling last night when we went to bed. We only knew something was happening because a neighbor was hitting us,” she told PA. “She was shouting ‘move the cars’.

“We managed to get my parents’ dog out so we didn’t have to worry about her, and then everyone got to work.”

Williams claims Natural Resources Wales failed to listen to residents’ warnings issued the last time there was flooding.

“This time there’s only about four inches of water coming in, but it’s in the exact same place that we told NRW about last time, and they didn’t do anything,” adds -She.

“They tried to convince everyone that the flood defenses worked. I have videos proving the flood defenses don’t work.”

She says they had a flood warning yesterday morning at 10:00 GMT, which is just a general watch alert.

“We received the flood alert, which relates to the risk of flooding to properties, at around 7.40am this morning, but the river was already in flood, by which time it was too late.”

She says it was neighbors in the community who fought to protect homes that kept flooding from being as bad as 2020.
