The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has ordered the freezing of bank accounts of 18 journalists, including Dhaka Journalists’ Union (DUJ) president Quddus Afrad and ATN News editor Nurul Amin Prabhas .

A letter sent yesterday by the BFIU ordered them to freeze their bank accounts and those they hold with private organizations for the next thirty days.

The list also includes former director general of Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust Subhash Chandra Badal, Mobashwira Farzana Mithila of Ekattor TV, editor-in-chief of Dainik Janakantha Swadesh Roy, former director general of Somoy TV Ahmed Jobayer, director of Media and Communication of Dhaka Bangla, Salauddin Chowdhury, and Journalist Farah Ahsan.

Dhaka Tribune journalist Zulfikar Ali Manik, journalist Masuda Bhatti, former deputy press secretary to ex-Prime Minister Ashraful Alam Khokan, Daily Observer editor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury and his daughter Sabrina Mahjabin, the DBC News Chairman Shahidul Ahsan, Dhaka Bangla Media and Communication Director Rahnuma Ahsan. and her husband Mahbuba Helen, Mohammad Manjurul Islam and Mohammad Shafiqul Ahsan from the same organization were also on the list.
