Pro-Palestinian activists plan to protest outside Caulfield synagogue in response to ‘new Middle East event’

Pro-Palestinian protesters plan to disrupt an event at a Caulfield synagogue on Monday evening, where a group of Jewish leaders are meeting to discuss the “new Middle East”.

The “Jewish-led” protesters, organized by the Naarm Free Palestine Coalition, plan to gather “peacefully” in front of the synagogue “in support of the liberation of Palestine.”

“There is a meeting at Caulfield Hebrew Congregation to discuss Gaza as the ‘new Middle East,'” protest organizers posted on Instagram.

“Support for genocide in Gaza goes against human rights values and goes against Jewish values.

“This is a peaceful protest organized by Jewish anti-Zionists, many of whom grew up attending synagogues – and do not accept our religion being used as a weapon of genocide.”

The panel discussion, organized by the United Appeal for Israel Victoria, the Australian Council of Jewish and Israel Affairs and the Caulfield Hebrew Congregation, is scheduled to take place from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Protesters plan to be present for the duration of the event.

Throughout the evening, ticket holders will hear from several speakers, including former Israeli Air Force Chief Major General Eitan Ben Eliahu, former Israeli Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked, l Former Mossad intelligence chief Zohar Palti, the head of Asia-Israel policy. Gedaliah Afterman program and senior consultant for Israeli news channel Channel 12 Ehud Yaari.

The theme of the evening is: “Israel’s Challenges and Opportunities in a New Middle East.”

Protesters accuse the event of promoting the genocide of the Palestinian people as an opportunity for Israel to seize their land.

“The Zionist state is under increasing pressure with the ICC issuing arrest warrants for Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant for alleged crimes against humanity, while the memorandum of understanding between the Victorian government and the IOF will not be not renewed,” wrote the organizers of the demonstration.

“Events such as ‘Israel’s Challenges and Opportunities in a New Middle East’ must be challenged because of their normalization of genocide and land theft.”

Protesters stressed the importance of “respecting places of worship” and asked protest participants not to come within ten meters of the synagogue and event participants.
