Woman Shot to Death in Car

We wrap up our look at local news tonight with more tragedy and another look at the increased violence this year, despite some progress in reducing the number of homicides overall.

Here is the first report. . .

Homicide 34 and Garfield

This evening around 8:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of E. 34th Street and Garfield Boulevard on a reported shooting lookout activation. While officers were on their way to the first call for service, another call came in reporting a shooting in the same area.

Upon arrival, officers located EMS personnel assisting an adult female victim with apparent gunshot trauma to exit the vehicle. He was immediately transported to an area where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

In the initial investigation, it was determined that the gunshots came from outside the vehicle and hit the victim inside the vehicle. We currently have no suspects and no one is in custody.

Homicide detectives and crime scene teams arrived at the scene and began collecting evidence and witness statements. This incident is being investigated as a homicide and is currently ongoing.

At this time, anyone who was in or around the area and saw or heard anything should contact Homicide Detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or Anonymous TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crime through the use of the Missouri Violent Crime Victim/Witness Protection Program. Funding for temporary or even permanent relocation may be available but is subject to prior approval by the State administrative agency.

We work with Partners for Peace on all of our homicide investigations to monitor risks of retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.
