Dog dies in fire in Albany

A dog died in a fire in Albany Thursday night.

A captain with the Albany Fire Department said firefighters took three dogs from the home at 29 Stephen Street. The vet is still treating someone.

Albany Fire Chief Joseph Gregory said that the fire started around 22.30, and fire crews arrived at the scene at 22.38. The flames were taken under control as of 22.53.

One person was home at the time of the fire and was evacuated safely, Gregory said. No people were harmed.

According to Gregory, there is significant damage to the first floor of the building. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
