Orange County Sheriff’s Office releases body camera footage of fatal deputy shooting

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orange County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday released body camera footage showing a fatal deputy-involved shooting that occurred last month.

According to the sheriff’s office, around 4:30 a.m. on Sept. 21, a woman called 911 and said her boyfriend, who was in his 40s, was armed with a knife and was threatening to kill her.

“Deputies arrived at the InTown Suites at 1951 Central Florida Parkway minutes later and encountered the man holding a knife,” OCSO said in a statement posted to X, the former Twitter account.

Before the shooting, the woman was heard begging deputies not to shoot the man.

“Don’t hurt him, don’t hurt him. Please don’t do this,” a woman was heard saying as a deputy pointed his gun at the man standing at the door of the motel.

“Don’t do it,” a member of parliament can be heard saying. “Put down the knife, man. We’ll help you.”

“We just want to talk, man. You’re not in trouble,” says another MP.

But the sheriff’s office said deputies were forced to fire after the man attacked them with a knife.

“The man went back to his room and our deputies were in the parking lot, trying to get him out without a knife so he could get the help he needed. About 20 minutes later, the man came out, held the knife above his head and ran toward our deputies, who fired their service weapons and attacked the man.” The OCSO statement read:

Deputies helped the man until firefighters arrived on scene and transported him to the hospital, where he later died, authorities said.

“The video is being released in accordance with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office’s Release of Video Footage in Critical Incidents policy,” the OCSO statement said. “The investigation into the collision continues”
