British Columbia election: Mail-in voting numbers will be available for each riding

Elections BC is expected to provide a breakdown Friday of the number of uncounted mail-in and mail-in ballots in each of B.C.’s 93 ridings, which could make the outcome of the weekend’s fierce voting clearer.

There are approximately 65,000 ballots to be counted between tomorrow and Monday, which could consolidate election night results, or even flip some precincts.

A handful of ridings remain too tight to call after Saturday’s election, in which neither the NDP nor the BC Conservatives secured the 47 seats needed for a majority.

Two full recounts will also begin this weekend for the ridings of Juan de Fuca-Malahat and Surrey City Centre, as fewer than 100 votes separated the NDP and BC Conservative candidates.

So far, the NDP is elected or leads in 46 ridings, while the BC Conservatives have 45 seats and two members of the Green Party have been elected.

Elections BC says the counting of mail-in and mail-in ballots begins Saturday, while the recount, which will be done by hand, begins Sunday.

The result from Surrey City Center is expected on Sunday, while the result at Juan de Fuca-Malahat is expected on Monday.
