British nurse killer Lucy Letby loses appeal over attempted baby murder conviction

LONDON – English killer nurse Lucy Letby He lost his bid to appeal his conviction on Thursday attempted murder of girl under his supervision.

Letby, 34, is serving multiple life sentences with no chance of release after being found guilty of murdering seven babies and trying to kill seven others between June 2015 and June 2016 while she was working as a neonatal nurse at the Countess of Chester Hospital in north-west England.

His lawyer argued that the July retrial on charges of attempting to murder an infant identified in court as Child K in February 2016 should not go ahead because it was overshadowed by “overwhelming and irreparable bias” in news coverage of his first trial in 2016. 2023.

The retrial was held after jurors at Manchester Crown Court were unable to reach a verdict on the charge against Child K.

Stating that he did not harm any children, Letby continued to declare his innocence. He watched the hearing on a prison video link and showed no emotion when the judges rejected his appeal.

The court made a similar decision in May to appeal several previous convictions.

The decision comes like this investigation continues to examine the hospital’s failures to understand why babies were dying in the neonatal unit and to stop Letby sooner.
