Indiana Pacers’ big man suffered an Achilles injury in the Detroit Pistons match

inside Detroit PistonsThey face a familiar face in the season opener against the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday. This was his first game against his former team after letting James Wiseman become a free agent.

Wiseman’s playing time against the Pistons would be brief, playing just under five minutes. The former No. 2 pick would have to leave the game early due to a non-contact injury. The incident occurred while Wiseman was running on the field after a missed three-point attempt.

Updates on Wiseman’s injury emerged Thursday evening. Shams Charania reported that his Achilles tendon has ruptured and he will work with the Pacers to find a suitable treatment option.

This is a heavy blow for Wiseman, who has struggled to find a place in the league. Having failed to meet expectations with the Golden State Warriors, the Pistons decided to add the young big man to their squad. He spent a season and a half in Detroit, averaging 8.6 PPG and 6.1 RPG in 87 contests.

Wiseman was a restricted free agent this summer, leaving the Pistons’ front office with a difficult decision. Even though he showed good improvements during his tenure, they chose to waive his rights and let him hit the open market. This paves the way for Wiseman to sign a two-year deal with the Pacers.

There’s no clear timetable for Wiseman, but his Achilles injury likely means he’ll be out for an extended period of time. This marks another difficult period for the 23-year-old as he progresses in his young career.
