Video shows fight at Burnaby golf course

Video has surfaced on social media of a fight at a Burnaby golf course earlier this month, during which a man appears to hit another golfer with his club.

The video begins with a man shouting, “Did you fucking hit me?” to which the other responds “we made a mistake and”, when interrupted by a swinging golf club.

The moment of impact is not visible, but a loud noise can be heard and the victim is then seen kneeling with his head on the ground.

A group of golfers are then heard shouting at the attacker, asking him “what’s wrong with you”, telling him to step back and put the club down. Another says: “Call the RCMP immediately.”

Local Mounties confirmed to CTV News on Friday that they responded to a report of an assault in progress at a golf course in North Burnaby on October 12.

“When police arrived, the 43-year-old suspect, who was intoxicated, was still at the scene and was immediately taken into custody without incident,” said Cpl. Mike Kalanj wrote in an email.

Police said the suspect allegedly struck three men with a golf club following a “brief verbal altercation,” adding that the victims all suffered minor injuries.

He was released with a court date and faces a potential charge of assault with a weapon, RCMP said.

“This is the second time Burnaby officers have encountered a fight on a golf course since June,” Kalanj said. “It is unacceptable to engage in a physical altercation like this in a recreational establishment. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries. »

During the June incident, a fight ensues– where kicks and punches were thrown – between a number of golfers after one group allegedly hit too close to the other.
