Two men charged with murder of former Argentine rugby player Aramburú

PARIS (AP) — Paris prosecutors announced Friday that two men will be brought to trial, accused of premeditated murder in the shooting death of former Argentine rugby player Federico Martín Aramburú two years ago.

PARIS (AP) — The Paris prosecutor’s office announced Friday that two men would be sent to trial for premeditated murder in death by gunshot from former Argentine rugby player Federico Martín Aramburú two years ago.

Loïk Le Priol and Romain Bouvier are both charged with murder, while Lyson Rochemir is indicted for complicity in murder, the prosecution said.

Aramburú was shot several times in the back in the early hours of March 19, 2022 in front of a bar on the Left Bank of Paris, a working-class neighborhood that has several establishments open late in the evening. He was 42 years old. The shooting happened after an altercation involving a group of people, including Aramburú and his friend Shaun Hegarty.

Rochemir allegedly drove Bouvier in the vehicle that followed Aramburú and then, at Le Priol’s request, tampered with the evidence by parking the vehicle in another location after the shooting.

She was also accused of destroying evidence by throwing away the SIM card from Le Priol’s cell phone.

A third man, Antony Sorrentino, was charged with obstruction of justice and tampering with evidence. He is accused of providing Bouvier with accommodation and money and of having disposed of Bouvier’s weapon and clothing.

Le Priol was arrested in Budapest, Hungary, several days after the murder and Bouvier was arrested in France.

The two men were linked to the French far right.

Aramburú played 22 times for Argentina as a center or winger, scoring a try in a victory over Georgia in the 2007 Rugby World Cup. He appeared for French clubs Biarritz, Perpigan and Dax from 2004 to 2010. ___
