Kirkpatrick joined the DRPS in May, after serving as a Toronto police officer for 14 years, and the speeding incident occurred a month later.

“In accordance with the CSPA, a misconduct investigation has been referred by the DRPSB to the Peel Regional Police Service,” he said. “Just two days ago, the investigation process concluded and I accepted the board’s decision and full responsibility for my actions.”

“I received a significant sanction commensurate with my rank, losing 94 hours,” Kirkpatrick added.

The post also quoted Durham Regional Police Services Board chair Shaun Collier.

Collier said in August: “all members of the DRPS are expected to be exemplary in their behavior, and this is especially true of the organization’s leaders.

Kirkpatrick said he “deeply” regrets his actions and admits he was not below the standards he set for himself.

“I hope this reminds DRPS that as leaders we are in fact held to a higher standard, that we are held accountable and that this is a step towards prioritizing confidence,” Kirkpatrick said.

“While members are not expected to comment publicly on their disciplinary matters, as Deputy Chief, I felt it was important to be transparent with each of you and maintain respect for the leaders of this organization,” he added.
