Man breaks into auto shop, drives stolen SUV through garage door – Winnipeg Free Press

Winnipeg police have arrested a man, already wanted on warrants, for allegedly stealing an SUV from an auto body shop and using it as a getaway vehicle while he went to steal tools from a home improvement store home.

The auto body shop located in the 400 block of St. Mary’s Road was burglarized around 7 p.m. Thursday, police said. The suspect stole a customer’s SUV, which was parked inside, and drove it through an overhead door, causing approximately $10,000 in damage.

About a half-hour later, police said, the suspect drove the vehicle to a store in Abinojii Mikanah and stole about $3,000 worth of tools. Around 9 p.m., police said, officers found the abandoned vehicle, located the suspect, who still had the tools, and arrested him.

He is accused of giving a false name to police during his arrest, before investigators determined his real identity.

A 38-year-old man has been charged with various offenses including break and enter, theft and driving while disqualified, as well as five arrest warrants.
