The Saskatoon Police Service is warning residents about a phone scam involving fraudulent lottery applications.

Police say the scammers are posing as representatives of the STARS lottery, claiming recipients have won a new vehicle. To receive the prize, victims are advised to pay a fee via gift card.

Police are asking the public to be vigilant and never provide personal or financial information to unsolicited callers.

If you receive a suspicious call, the police ask you to hang up and block the number. Do not click on any links this caller sends you.

Police say the STARS Lottery will never demand payment of any kind.
