Driver charged after crashing into OPP cruiser

A man has been charged after allegedly crashing into a parked Ontario Provincial Police cruiser in Tay Township early Sunday morning.

Police say he was heading east in his minivan on Highway 12 near Old Fort Road and struck the OPP car that was parked on the east side . Both vehicles suffered significant damage as a result of the collision.

The 31-year-old driver, from Penetanguishene, was charged with impaired driving. He and his passenger both suffered minor injuries, but no officers were injured during the incident, according to police.

Highway 12 was closed in the area while Southern Georgian Bay OPP and members of the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Team investigated the scene. The area reopened after a six-hour closure.
